Volunteering in the Classroom

Today our volunteer spent time in a grade 10 class, where the students asked her questions about herself and Canada. The students are just in their first year of high school, but their English is quite good. Our volunteer handed out Canada pins and many pictures were taken. As students left the class they all made a point of saying good-bye and thanks.

Later at the welcome assembly, students sang, read poems, folk danced, and expressed thanks to CanTeach and the volunteer. Two scholarship recipients were invited back and spoke to the assembly about how much the scholarship meant to them, and told the current kids to never give up and to work hard.

This is just a snapshot of the time our volunteers spend volunteering in a school. Think you might be interested in a future volunteer trip? Get in touch with us here and we'll let you know about upcoming opportunities.
